I launched a new wordpress site and installed Yoast SEO on it, added meta info and keywords for all of the pages in July 2018. Recently I noticed that 421 of my pages were being excluded from Google Search Console because there is a “noindex” tag.

How do I correct this? I reviewed the post: YOAST SEO roboots meta configuration but the problem persists. It’s definitely the yoast plugin becuase when I deactivate it the “noidex” goes away.

I really don’t want to have to re-write all of the meta info for my site. Please help, and please don’t just say I need to purchase the premium versions to get support, you all put this plugin on www.remarpro.com, you need to make sure it works as advertised.

    Thanks

There are a few ways that Yoast SEO will output a noindex tag. The most common are:

    1. Admin > Settings > Reading > Search Engine Visibility > Discourage search engines from indexing this site
Checking this option adds a noindex tag

    2. Admin > SEO > Search Appearance > Content Types > Show [content-type] in search results?
Toggling this to ‘No’ adds a noindex tag.

    3. Admin > [content-type] > Edit > Yoast SEO metabox > Advanced (gear icon) > Allow search engines to show this [content-type] in search results?
Selecting ‘No’ add a noindex tag.

    1. Discourage search engine not checked

    2. All Content types were set to “Yes” except for Templates which was set to “No”. I switched this to “Yes” but the noindex tag was still there

    3. Ahhh!!! I don’t know how that setting got changed to “No” on the home page. I switched it to “Yes” and now the noindex is gone. Thanks for your help.

One question, I’m curious why a noindex on the homepage would disrupt the coverage for 241 pages? Shouldn’t it just affect the homepage? Or is it because it’s the top level URL that it affects a crawler from going to sub pages on that URL?

It would only output a noindex tag on the homepage. However, that setting is available on all content so it’s possible that other individual pages are, also, set to ‘No’.

Clicking on the ‘Excluded by noindex tag’ in Google Search Console will provide you a list of pages to review.

Thanks, I’ve confirmed the setting is “Yes” for all of the other pages.

How would I allow indexing of links like this: https://saratech.com/2018/05/creating-templates-in-nx-cam/

These are blogspot posts that we’ve imported and have 301 redirected the URL’s, but they’re showing up as Excluded Due to No Index, but they’re set as “Yes” under the “Allow search engines to show this Post in search results?”

    Thanks

It might be cached information as I don’t see a noindex on that page and it shows in Google search results here.

    Closed. No further concerns.
