HI. Google Search Console is reporting a constant user-generated canonical URL error 404 for my homepage, because it’s looking for the default language ‘casacapalbio.com/en’ homepage and finding nothing. The second language homepage URL is correct; ‘casacapalbio.com/it,’ but none of my english language page use /en/ and that’s what i want. is this a translatepress issue or setting i haven’t properly configured, or do i need to learn how to tell Google to ignore this?

    Hi,

You probably had the Use subdirectory for default language option in TP Settings –> General tab enabled at some point and Google indexed the page with /en in the URL.
You should try clearing your cache and reindexing that page using https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome Google Search Console. It will take about one-two weeks for google to update the information and crawl the translated pages.
