    Hi Guys,

I’ve been trying to submit my sitemap to Google Search Console and it’s bringing back a ‘couldn’t fetch’ status.

It’s say the sitemap ‘could not be read’.

I e deleted it, re-added it. Deleted the property in GSC, re-added it, cleared the caches etc and I can’t fix the issue.

    Never had this problem before.

    Can you help?

    Thanks

    Hello @b3ndoyle,

Thanks for reaching out regarding your sitemaps.

We loaded the sitemap index and the sub-sitemaps and they are fine. We tested the sitemap index in a sitemap validator and there is an error:

    Incorrect http header content-type: “text/html” (expected: “application/xml”)

Usually, to resolve this, we would have suggested clearing the cache but you mentioned that you have already done this.

You may also consider excluding the sitemaps from being cached permanently. You can follow the steps in this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/

Do let us know how it goes.
