    Hi

I have uploaded the Yoast generated sitemap to Google which reports that it can be read but has errors – “unsupported file format”.

I have noticed that other users describe their sitemaps as ending in index.xml whereas mine just ends in xml. Is this the problem?

    Thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @lawriem1,

Thanks for reaching out about your sitemap. Your Yoast SEO-generated XML sitemap is here, with /sitemap_index.xml/. Please remove all other sitemaps and submit only that.

Do let us know how it goes.

Thank you but the page-sitemap.xml sitemap is still being reported as

“Sitemap can be read, but has errors”
    “Unsupported file format”
“Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure that it meets our?Sitemap guidelines?and resubmit.”

I checked the page sitemap and it has the error below:

This page contains the following errors: error on line 2 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
