Google is flagging some recipes with a warning “The cookTime field is recommended. Please provide a value if available.”

    Example: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool#url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chichilicious.com%2Frecipes%2Ftiramisu%2F

The problem is that some recipes do not require any actual “cooking” time, for example, a salad, or a no bake dessert, there is nothing to cook, just prep time. In WP Recipe Maker, there is an option to display the cook time as “0” , but it seems google is ignoring this “0” value or it seems that this “0” data is not outputted in the recipe schema?

    How can we address this?
    – Is this something that will be patched in future version of the plugin?
    – Should we enter a “cook time” instead of “prep” time for recipes that do not have cook time? The issue with this is that on the front-end, visitor would see for example a salad that has a cook time of 10 minutes, instead of prep time of 10 minutes, which is kinda weird?

Google needs to see either prep AND cook time or if you don’t have both it needs a total time set. They will show a warning if that’s not the case and they don’t see 0 as a correct value for the metadata.

There’s nothing we can do about that on our end so there’s nothing to patch. I recommend just making sure the total time field is filled in.
