I temporarily had to add the google plus link by hardcoding it on my right and left bars because somehow I am not getting the google plus link in each of my posts on the main news feed page of my blog. My blog is https://www.thetwelfthstep.com. You can see in there if you click an article directly, the picture appears. But it’s not showing up on the main page, just in the direct article view. Any reason why this would be happening. I deactivated and reactivated several times the google plus link on the sharing page of settings, but that did not do anything.

    Hi Andrew,

This is the expected behavior for the Google+ “byline” at the end of the post. Since the byline is a promotion for the author’s Google+ account, we don’t include it everywhere.

The Google+ sharing button will appear everywhere per your settings to promote visitors to share your content.

    Cheers!

Where are the settings to include it on my main feed because I have had to hard code on my main page the HTML to make the google structured tool work. I’m not sure if I changed a setting or not somewhere but I just can’t seem to find where I can get it on my feed. I thought the byline was on my feed before?

There isn’t a setting to set this. Since Google+ Authorship is by post (as a site can have multiple authors), the byline is only added to posts (both for that bit of post flair that you can see, as well as internal code in the “head” of your HTML’s code).

Adding it as you did, or using a plugin like Simple Social Icons is the best way to add site-wide social media links.

    Cheers!

So I was mistaken that I once thought I saw that google plus byline in my main newsfeed?

    Howdy,

Checking the history of the code for that feature, the checks for is_single() (checking that it is the “single post view” as opposed to a date, tag, author, or category archive or the home page) is present from the first code commit, so I think so.

Is it possible you were using a different plugin previously?

Actually, it’s quite possible that I just assumed it was there because I had seen it in a direct post. The fact is though, I still don’t have my picture show up on google searches anyway, even though I have had authorship going for awhile now. Do you find that Google picks and chooses who they allow the search results to get that picture put next to their blog?

Yup, Google won’t include the picture in all search results that it is possible. They use an algorithm to determine when they appear that I don’t think is public.

In some cases, Google’s search cache might not associate your proflie to the site yet. That’ll be updated by Google in their own time based on their algorithms for updates.

Your site has the right markup, so it’s up to Google now.

I’ve been wondering if part of their algorithm is to look at a site’s traffic and also it’s relevance and importance. I”m writing a blog on spirituality and it is relatively brand new. My old blog, which also was google plus ready, was blog.andrewarthurdawson.com and it was up and running for an entire year and a half with no picture showing up. So I’m not sure what it would take for my picture to ever show up and have kind of accepted it may never unfortunately…

I don’t believe they take traffic, per se, into account, but likely do look at the overall “placement” of your site in search results, others linking into it, etc.

Not sure if this is helpful or just retelling what you already know: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1306778?hl=en&ref_topic=6003069

Brandon, I just wanted to thank you for all your help and quick replies. I guess if Google Plus decides to ever see I’m worthy of adding the picture, it remains to be seen. Regardless, thanks again. This post can be closed now.
