    Hi!

Because of the upcoming changes regarding Flickr, I started to move the photos for our website to Google Photos, which is thankfully supported by Photonic, so I will continue using it. But there is a small problem, that I recognised now: I cannot hide the text, that shows the number of photos in the “albums” view. In the Flickr settings panel, there is a checkbox: “This will hide the number of photos in your Photoset’s title.”. But this option is missing from the Google Photos setting panel. If this option would be available for the Google Photos settings, that would be nice.
The reason I don’t like the current version, is because the text is only in English and there is no option to change that. So I don’t really care if the number of photos is displayed, or not, but if it is displayed, please give me the option to change the text part, because the website’s language is Hungarian, so it would only be useful, if I could display the number of photos is Hungarian as well.
So please either give us the option to change the “photo” and “photos” label to whatever I want (so I can display that text in hungarian language) and/or give us the option to hide the number of photos, similar to the Flickr settings page.

    Thanks,
    Tibor Hugyecz

    Hi,
Photonic supports translations … but none has contributed a Hungarian translation. In fact, the only translation available is for Spanish. The “photos” string is actually translated on the fly provided the translation is available.

How do you create a translation file? The simplest way is to get a free tool such as POEdit, create a copy of photonic.po (from wp-content/plugins/photonic/languages), save it under wp-content/plugins, and then translate it with POEdit. The output will be saved as photonic-hu_HU.mo. I had written a manual several years back for a different product.

If you are feeling adventurous you can even get added as a translator here and directly contribute a translation. There were some exchanges I had at the time of setting up the Spanish translation that might help you.

Of course, another alternative is to switch out from the type of title display you have to a “tooltip” type of display, which will not show you the count of photos.

    OK, thanks for the reply.
I tried to just quickly translate only the string(s) necessary for me, but I couldn’t get it to work.
Where exactly should I save the translation files (inside the same folder: wp-content/plugins/photonic/languages)? What should I name the file(s): hu_HU.mo and hu_HU.po (according to the tutorial, you linked) or photonic-hu_HU.mo and photonic-hu_HU.po (according to your message)? I tried both names, and the translation did not work, maybe the location was not right?
When I was trying, I was doing it this way: I created a copy of photonic.po file, renamed it and then edited it with the program you mentioned. After saving it, it created a new file with the same name, but with the “.mo” extension. I uploaded it to the same folder, where the original photonic.po is located. Then I tried to edit the wp-config.php (based on the tutorial for the other product, you linked) to define WPLANG, but I did not notice any difference, the text I translated (or I thought I translated) still appeared in English, not in the translated Hungarian form.

    What am I doing wrong?

The files should be called photonic-hu_HU.po and photonic-hu_HU.mo and should go to wp-content/plugins, not wp-content/plugins/photonic/languages. If you put it within the Photonic folder then you will lose the file when you update the plugin.

Hi – were you able to resolve this?

    Hi!

Unfortunately, it is still not working, however I put everything to the place you were saying it. But I have to say that I haven’t had much free time in the previous couple of days to try more, so there is a chance that I missed something, somewhere.
Until I get more free time to get it working, is it possible to include the same option for google photos as well – similar to flickr – to hide this “number of photos” string completily in the albums view? (On the flick settings page there is a checkbox for it).

    Thanks!

I have added an option for this under Photonic → Settings → Google Photos → Google Photos Settings in version 2.12.

Thanks, I just updated the plugin and noticed the option. Thanks!
