Sorry for the confusion, appears Google cloud has had some changes which don’t make sense to us and our maps stopped. How to trouble shoot this? How to ensure the settings on Google cloud are correct?

    INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED:

    Visit https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/
        1. Click on Get Started, you may be asked to log in to your Google account
        Select Maps, click continue
Select or Create a Project: Just create a new project and give it the name of your website
The project will be created, it can take several seconds
Set up billing: Google requires that you have a billing account in case you start to run up charges (you probably won’t…see below)

        >>>>>The Maps API will be enabled<<<<<
You will then be given your API key. Copy this and paste it into the “Maps JavaScript API Key” setting in the Locations Map settings.
Go to your Google Cloud APIs Dashboard, make sure you have the right project selected, then on the left, select “Credentials.”
To set up the Geocoding API key, add another API key by clicking on the “Create credentials” button. This will be used only for Geocoding, so give it a name that identifies it for that purpose. Paste it into the “Geocoding API Key” setting.

Before you used to create credentials and add the correct API keys. Above it now states “The Maps API will be enabled” So we are confused as to what needs credentials and what does not and how to determine which API is set up correctly.

Please see this page with the mapping page NOT WORKING at the top and screen shots of our new set up for Google cloud. Any suggestions to trouble shoot this, or where the error is are appreciated. Thank you

Oddly the map opens for a few seconds then goes to an error page.

Did you have it working and then it stopped?

If so, you don’t need tog o through all that, you just need to log in to your console:

    https://console.cloud.google.com/google/maps-apis/overview

On the left look for “Cedentials”

I know their dev site is very diifcult to navigate, they have so many things going on.

Also, if you had it working and it suddenly stopped, it might be that you’ge gone over your limit…are you getting a lot of traffic?

If you’re just strting out and need to get your credentials for the first time, it’s possible my instructions are outdated, my apologies, I’ll have to take another look at that and update the instructions.

Looks like the URL get getting started is: https://developers.google.com/maps/

The problem was “restrictions” were turned on for one of the API’s once turned off it worked fine. This was not mentioned in the set-up instructions if the API needed to be restricted to a website, IP address etc.

The Maps stopped because the email we were using was turned off so we needed to set up all over again with a new email for Google Cloud.

    Thank you

thanks for letting us know what worked, looks like I need to check the instructions, make sure they’re up to date.

Oh, and a discussion of API Restrictions are included the instructions, for those who want to look that up.
