    Hello!
I have noticed, that most of my Google Maps on my website are not displayed correctly, when I activate the plugin.
    Here are two screenshots:
    Plugin activated
    Plugin deactivated
A life-example you can find here: only one example (I have deactivated the plugin now!).

Do you have an idea for that? Thank you very much in advance!

    Kind regards
    Andreas

    Good morning Rogier,
I’m sorry, but I have bad news. Before I tried your new plugin, I’ve deactivated and DELETED the old plugin, to prevent errors. Then I’ve downloaded the latest ZIP-file from github. I’ve activated the health-check-plugin and only the new Complianz-plugin. Then I’ve generated a new file with this code inside:

    <img src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/staticmap?center=Hamburg,Deutschland&zoom=7&size=448x448&maptype=roadmap
    &markers=color:0xff0000%7Clabel:%7CHamburg,Deutschland&key=AIzaSyBxn5h3VIjc9ut1KBf68nlWk0Uqed92Wuc">

I checked the placeholder-option in the Complianz setting, and the result is again the google-URL in the source-code of the browser, here is a screenshot:
    Screenshot
If I deactivate the placeholder-option, the google map is displayed immediately without warning.
By the way, when I installed the new github-version, all my custom settings and custom css were back, is that correct? Could it have anything to do with it?
    Thank you in advance!

    @andreas-2013,

I’m very sorry, when I updated the git this morning, I updated with the wrong code, so instead of having the latest version, you are now back on the ‘live’ code as in the WordPress repository.

I just pushed the correct code to this branch. Sorry about the double work!

Can you try one more time?

It works fine on the sandbox with the same code you use, so it should work.

I’ve checked it out, but without success. The placeholder is shown, but without warning message and the possibility to allow cookies.

    Hi @andreas-2013,

I just double checked, to make sure this branch works I’ve uploaded this branch (as opposed to my dev code) to our sandbox, where it works as expected with the code you used. Possibly you’re not downloading the correct branch?

As it is working as it should on our testing environments, I think the best course of action is to wait for the official release, and check the result then. This should be within 2 weeks.

Hi Rogier, I’m very sad and confused, that it doesn’t work on my website. I just repeated all steps. I’ve totally deleted the old plugin and also deleted old Complianz-tables through WP-Optimize. After that I’ve downloaded the latest version from github again and tried to install it with the wizard. But very strange, all old settings and custom css have survived, and the wizard found NO cookies!
I deactivated all plugins but Complianz and made a new empty site with the correct google maps code, and again there is a placeholder shown without warning message, no matter, if I check in the settings “placeholder” or not.
When I try now to click in the settings-menu on the button “Cookie Banner”, it results in a white page with following message:
“Diese Seite funktioniert nicht. https://www.promi-geburtstage.de hat Sie zu oft weitergeleitet. L?schen Sie Ihre Cookies. ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS”.
Also strange: when I activate the other plugins and the old theme again, the shortcode in the footer didn_t work anymore: <button class=”cc-revoke-custom”>Cookie-Einwilligung widerrufen</button>
After that I’ve deleted the github-version and installed the official Complianz-plugin again. Unfortunately, I still can’t open the Button “Cookie Banner” in the settings-menu.
Do you know, what is wrong? I did all as you say, and there are still these errors. How can I totally delete the Complianz-Plugin, with all custom settings, and install it fresh again?
    Thank you in advance, Rogier!

Edit: If I leave the plugin installed, all cookies are automatically disallowed and no ads are shown. And the revoke-shortcode-button to change settings still doesn’t work. So I have to deactivate the plugin now ??

Edit: After deactivation of the plugin the cookies are left still disallowed. Only with cleaning the database through WP-Optimize my site is working again ??

Hi Rogier, I found out myself, how to delete all custom settings. In the basic settings is an option “delete also all custom settings, if plugin is deleted”.
Then I’ve installed the plugin from github, and it works normally, also the revoke-button in the footer – but without the google-static-maps-functionality. How I told you, there is no warning message overlay on the image-placeholder, only the placeholder is shown.
And when I click on the revoke-button to allow cookies again, the ads are shown, but there is still the placeholder-image and not the original google map.

Edit: Maybe there is some problem with the browser-support. I normally use Chrome. When I open a page in Microsoft edge, there is no placeholder at all, only the original google-map.

Rogier, I’ve just checked out again your sandbox-example (https://really-simple-sandbox.com/static-google-maps/2020/08/01/4/). Does it really work correct? There’s always shown a google image (no placeholder), without warning message and always with the same filename, no matter if I allow or disallow marketing cookies…

    Hi @andreas-2013,

What our plugin does, is that it downloads the Google Maps image to your server and then hosts it locally. You can confirm this by right-clicking the image -> Inspect. You will see <img src="yourdomain.com/static-google-maps/wp-content/[..].jpg">.

For example with YouTube we do the same: We download the preview image, host it locally and display the cookie message on top of it, because visitors will need to accept marketing cookies to actually watch the video. In this case we already display the image, so there is no need to accept cookies and to send their personal data to the Google Maps API.

Could you confirm that this is working at your site as well?

    Kind regards,
    Leon

    Good morning Leon!

Now I understand the functionality. That means, that normally there will be no placeholder at all? Why is there an option to check placeholder? And where are all the images saved, I have thousand of visits a day?

I’ve just installed again the new plugin from github and only activated the Complianz-plugin. Unfortunately there is always a placeholder shown, no matter if I check “placeholder” or net in the settings (if cookies aren’t allowed).
    The code looks like this:
    <img src="https://www.promi-geburtstage.de/wp-content/plugins/complianz-gdpr-google-maps-static-images-/assets/images/placeholder.jpg">
The youtube-videos don’t work at all (cookies allowed or not), there is only a white square:
    <iframe class="cmplz-iframe cmplz-iframe-styles cmplz-video cmplz-hidden " data-src-cmplz="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N-jGaIT_f-k" width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N-jGaIT_f-k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>

Do you have an idea, why it doesn’t work?

    Goodmorning @andreas-2013,

Would you mind contacting us via https://complianz.io/support ? Maybe it’s better not to share all these URL’s from your site here.

I believe that the YouTube video’s are a different problem.

We will share the solution here for the community once we have worked it out via mail support.

    Kind regards,
    Leon

    Hi Leon,
oh sorry, yes, no problem, I can do that ??
But that’s only possible for Premium-users, right?
I would basically like to buy the plugin if this google maps function would work for me.

@andreas-2013 Everyone can email us :-), you can also email to support (at) complianz.io directly.

For the community: This site contains a custom implementation with Google Maps images. We are assisting @andreas-2013 with a custom solution.

I’ll mark this thread as resolved.
