I am trying to set up the API Key, but I am not able to find the Google Fonts Developer API in the list of API’s in the Developer Console.

The list is alphabetical – and I have scrolled up and down a million times looking for Google Fonts, Fonts, Google Webfonts, Webfonts … it really is not there!

In your video it shows at the bottom of the list as Webfonts Developer API – but my list ends at Translate API and there is no option to scroll further or look for a new page.

In the Google Fonts API help page it says to look for Google Fonts Developer API – but my list goes from Google Contacts CardDAV API to Google Maps Android API v2

I am at a bit of a loss … is there something I need to enable to make this show?

    Cheers
    Meg

    Meg,

I just checked to make sure and it is listed there as Web Fonts Developer API. The list is as so: Translate API, URL Shortener API, Web Fonts Developer API, YouTube Analytics API. Once activated, it will show up at the top of the list and the button on the right will turn green to “ON”. It sounds like you’re in the right place. I just checked this last week for someone else and verified that everything should work exactly as it does in the video.

Hi Tom … thanks for checking … but it really is not showing for me at all. My list of APIs ends at Translate API and doesn’t go any further, and doesn’t have a page down or new page option …

I have refreshed the page and yelled at my computer … and still it doesn’t show. Any ideas why this would be? Is there something else I have to activate to be able to have this available?

    Are you here: https://console.developers.google.com/?
Next, have you created a Project?

I wish they had a chat window for this! Do you have a Facebook account?
You could friend me and we could get this resolved quicker that way if you’d prefer?? Anyway, once you’ve created a project, you click on “API’s & Auth” and then APIs right?

Can you try this? Just click on the “Credentials” link under APIs. Next click “Create New Key” under Public API Access and select “Browser Key”. Copy the new API key and paste it into the form in the plugin. Update it and see if you get an error or if it accepts it.

    Hi Thomas

I created and API key and added it into the plugin. I didn’t get an error … but it keeps asking me for the API key …

“In order to make use of this plugin, you are going to need a Google API Key. Click on the settings icon on the top toolbar to get and enter your Google API credentials.”

I am guessing this message goes away if the API key is accepted?

I do have a FB account … chat might be easier if you are around … I do appreciate your help!

Thanks for posting that! Glad you got it figured out ??

    Hi Thomas,

I got the API key but the plugin will only display the open sans font in preview and when I click to install it just asks me for the API key again. I regenerated the API key but same result.

In the post/page editor I can see the drop downs – one with font sizes and the other with a list of 14 old basic (system?) fonts like Arial and Trebuchet etc..

The message from the plugin on the settings page is:
[In order to make use of this plugin, you are going to need a Google API Key. Click on the settings icon on the top toolbar to get and enter your Google API credentials.]

    Hope you can advise.

    Cheers,
    Nick
