• Hey people,
I have a number of documents embedded in PDF format with ‘google doc embedder’ plugin that are now not displaying in FF. They display with other browsers on this machine and also display in firefox on my other machine. Is there a resolution to this bug? It seems to be widely reported but without resolution. I’ve seen a report of sidestepping the bug by creating a new FF profile, but this won’t help return visitors to the site who are unaware, will it?
Alternatively, is there a more stable plugin for displaying embedded docs? FF is a big browser share to be alienating.

  • Hi imagei,

If you’ve read other comments on this plugin, you’ll notice one thing: no two people have the same experience with the same browsers. For others, Firefox works great, and IE8 is the stinkpot.

The plugin embeds Google’s viewer, and as such it inherits all the quirks of that unfinished technology. It can be a helpful tool, but it cannot guarantee you 100% access 100% of the time, and neither can any other solution. There are too many variables out there.

I regret this inconvenience, but unfortunately the issue is currently beyond my control. Hopefully Google will revisit the viewer and improve the technology over time, but they don’t have a great track record in this regard.

    Thanks for the response K3davis.
Any indication of why this happens?
