• I have had a site for several years which I moved over to WordPress in the Spring. It has a news blog and a product directory. It has always done well on Google as there are over a thousand pages of unique content. I had some problems with the Panda update but after using the Yoast SEO plugin I got things back on track. Now it seems that Google updated again and many of my product pages dramatically dropped down the search results. The only pages now ranking well are ones that have recently been added.

My product pages seem to be seen as news rather than information pages so are seen as out of date. They are a custom post type so would it help if I removed the publish date meta (it is currently hidden with css)? Are then any other ways to tell Google that this is not a news post?

  • It may not be because Google think it old news so much as Google wants fresh content. Plus you should placing social website buttons and asking guess to click them, to get interaction.

Is another thing Google is looking for on your website the more you have the better you’ll rank in most cases.

You should concentrate on building authority site. I do run [link moderated]Hotel Management Training blog where i produce quality articles. Do follow this advices:

    1-Write around 1000+ words article
2-Try to make your site bigger as much as possible.
    3-Put more content every week
4-Concentrate on natural link building. There should be mixed of links like nofollow and dofollow
5-do some guest blogging on your niche or any other niche.

That’s what I was thinking. I do add fresh news items most days, the product directory is the unique and most important/attractive part of the site but only needs updating every 3 months or so. I just wonder how I can help this part of the site to recover as pages within it have dropped off considerably from search results.

The problem that I see is that when I find the results in Google that have dropped down they begin with a date. This date is not relevant to the post so I want to remove it. If I remove it from the post meta will this have the effect?

You can help your product pages by increasing their PageRank.

One way to do this is to go to related DoFollow blogs and forums and ensure you get a backlink to those pages. Look for sites with CommentLuv so you know they encourage participation in exchange for your backlink.
