• Hi there,

I just spent some time de-bugging an issue we’re having with Google Crawls being denied access (403) on many pages on our site. Our host checked the logs and found that some common Google IPs were blocked in our htaccess file via iThemes. Any guidance on this issue? They all seemed to be in this range: 66.249.64.0 to 66.249.95.255 using “Require not ip”

  • Hi,

You’ll want to check your Security Logs to see why they’re getting locked out. Likely due to hitting too many 404s. If that’s the case your best option is to get them fixed. I’d suggest disabling the 404 Detection feature until you’re able to get this done.

You will need to remove these IPs from your Banned Users field.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi Gerroald,

I’m experiencing the same problem (ie: Googlebots being blacklisted because of too many 404).

What do you mean by “get them fixed” ?
Which would be a good way to fix this ?

thanks a lot for your help,

    Matt
