Google API script slowing page loads

I tracked this script https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&sensor=false to the WPPA plugin. When running tests on site performance, this script is one of the top scripts slowing down my page loads, even on page where WPPA is not in use (like my home page). Is there a way to keep this script and any possible related scripts from running when the map feature is not being used?
