Hi Sue,
This plugin should still work without a google api key. Try this first:
- In your WordPress Admin Area go to: Settings > Google Fonts and click the Advanced Tab.
- Click the Save Google API Key button.
- Now visit the Customizer by going to: Appearence > Customize and click the Save Changes button.
If that doesn’t work then you can sign up for a google api key by doing the following:
- Follow these instructions to get an API Key from google. Once you have an API key enter it in the settings page for this plugin.
- In your WordPress Admin Area go to: Settings > Google Fonts and click the Advanced Tab.
- Click the Save Google API Key button.
Please note: Google have recently updated this console admin and it looks like they haven’t updated their instructions yet. Once you are in your console do the following:
- Hover over and click the Web Fonts Developer API link
Click the Credentials link located in the sidebar on the left hand side.
- Under the Public API heading button click the Create New Key button
- Select the Browser key button and click the Create button
- Copy the key that is generated into the admin area
Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.
Sunny
