• At about 4pm on Thursday (3 days ago), my Google Analytics suddenly dropped to zero and has not recorded any traffic since (except for randomly 1 view each day). I usually have several hundred sessions a day. I can’t figure out what the issue is and am struggling to fix it.

    Some relevant details:
    1. I migrated the site from wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com with Siteground just over two weeks ago. After customising my new theme, I repointed my domain to Siteground last Sunday, and it was fully propogated by Tuuesday (2 days before the traffic disappeared in GA).
    2. Earlier on Thursday I did some work to implement security measures on the site. This included adding some plugins (such as Wordfence, Google Authenticator and WP Limited Logins) and installing Recaptcha v3. This was all done a few hours before the traffic suddenly stopped.
    3. About 24 hours after the traffic stopped (but before I noticed it), a Codeable developer logged into my site to inspect the database regarding an issue with special characters not displaying correctly.
    4. After live chatting Google yesterday, I switched off the plugins that I had installed on Thursday prior to the traffic stopping tracking. However, that was over 12 hours ago and there’s still no traffic tracking in GA. (Note that Recaptcha is still installed, but I don’t see why that would cause an issue).

Is anyone able to help? I am really flummoxed by this. I know traffic is still coming to the site as I can still see our posts ranking highly in search results.

  • Hi @careergappers ,

This happens when the Google Analytics tracking code is no longer on the site. Confirm that the tracking code is in the header.php of your website. If you added it through a plugin, confirm the plugin is active and that your unique tracking code is still intact.

    Hi @sukafia ,

Thanks for the reply. I had already checked this though – the code is there in the header. So that’s not the issue. Still flummoxed as to what it may be.

    Hi,

could you try sending a test signal from GA to confirm Google can reach your site?
Also, ensure you’re not blocking Google’s bots from being able to access your site. Check your robots.txt file.

    There’s also a possibility of a plugin/theme conflict.
