Google Analytics being blocked – ignores setting

    Hi,

    I’ve used Complianze for some time and the Google Analytics blocking / consent seems to have broken. I’m receiving a LOT less analytics data suddenly.

    I have found that despite the Complianze Wizard having the answer to “Do you want to ask consent for statistics?” set as No, the plugin STILL blocks the analytics script until consent is given.

    I use the plugin “Google Analytics for WooCommerce” that Complianze has detected, and have chosen “Yes, Google Analytics” on the question “Do you compile statistics of this website?”

    I have tested with Analytics Debugger in Chrome and the second I click Accept on the Complianze banner the GA4 script loads. Otherwise, it doesn’t load at all.

    I’ve cleared the server cache, redis etc… after changing settings.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi @daveadams85,

    You are likely targeting the UK, in which case it is required to obtain consent for Statistics (even when anonymized/locally hosted).

    Therefore, Google Analytics is currently indeed only loaded after consent. Which explains the drop in available data, as only the visitors who consent would be tracked in Google Analytics.

    Configuring the plugin for a region such as the EU would allow for the Analytics script to load without consent, if you answered the question “Do you want to obtain consent for Statistics” with No, under Complianz -> Wizard -> Consent -> Statistics – configuration.

    Hi Jarnovos,

    Thanks for the response. That makes sense, but the tooltips in the plugin don’t reflect this. The tip says it applies in several EU countries, but does not say anything about the UK. It may be worth adding that, and also disabling the option to pick whether consent is required for analytics when it’s not a possibility – rather than just ignoring the setting?
