Google Adsense only showing Blog ads

    Hello,

    Why does Adsense only shows blog related ads? I mean, I’m using WP to write not just about my everyday activity but also includes a fair share on business and management (and thus, obviously uses quite some popular business terms which I think is Google friendly).

    Does this have anything to do with the meta-tags generated by WP or is there anything else that can fix this?

  • I took a look at your website (the one I’m assuming you’re talking about), I saw many adds non blog-related.

    If we are talking about https://blog.permagnus.com/, then yes there are many non blog related ads running across the site

    Well, the non-blog related ads does run on the top of the page. I’m talking about the one that’s before the comment. When you clicked one of the links to comment, you will see there’s a box that shows adsense.

    That box always shows blog-related ads.

    Well, I can hazard a few guesses, but this is all shots in the dark…

    It is possible that you have too much ‘junk’ before actual content on the page. Might be google isn’t getting much useful on the per-post pages — surprising, but…

    It is also possible that because of the theme, your post title is an H3, and is the only header on the page — thus not conveying much information (your titles are also short…).

    Also possible that, IF google actually reads meta fields, your meta keywords/description are simply unusable for english ad-text. I don’t trust that google >doesn’t< read those fields, so I make them english keyword rich. For the most part, page title, keywords, and description, as well as the H1, should be keyword-rich for the specific post (or posts, in the case of the home page…).

    Don’t use the word ‘blog’ in any keyword-potential spots (meta, titles, headers) if you don’t want it to be used as a potential keyword. ??

    It’s always a good idea to change your blog title not to show the word “blog”. By default the wordpress title shows BLOG NAME>>BLOG ARCHIVE>>POST TITLE. If you get rid of the first two parts and leave only the title, the adsense spiders will give priority to your title and show ads realted to the topic.

    Another thing you could try: AdSense section targeting. You can add tags that (supposedly) draw the AdSense bot to specific content areas, and away from others. So you could weight=ignore to things like your sidebar, and weighted tags to the post areas.

    I implemented it a couple of months ago, and while I still get the “start blogging” ads, it’s not as acute as it used to be.

    Also, it takes a few times spidering the site to get relevant content.
