Google Ads conversions are no longer being tracked
-
I switched from a 3rd party plugin to Site Kit on November 26th, and my Google Ads no longer records any conversions since making the change:

Conversions are enabled in Site Kit settings:

Usually any WooCommerce order placed would record a conversion in Google Ads. I thought it could be related to my FlyingPress caching plugin delaying JavaScript loading — but even after disabling that plugin completely, I still don’t have any conversions recorded.

Thanks for reaching out @korvak. While this may be a question for the Google Ads team, I would certainly be happy to check that your Site Kit configuration is correct and all is working as expected within the plugin. To start, please share the following:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
- When you mention that any order placed “would record a conversion in Google Ads”, are you referring to users who may have landed on your products from Google Ads only? If so, are you seeing these conversions directly from the Google Ads platform?
Based on one of your screenshots, it displays no conversions from Google from from 27th – 30th November. Is it possible that there were no conversions from Google ads at that time? Note that this isn’t a Site Kit screenshot, so you may wish to open a support topic with with the Google Ads experts on this, but please do share the above and we can firstly confirm a valid Google Ads snippet placed via Site Kit. Thank you.
I have uploaded the Site Health data.
We have about 20 conversions from Google ads every single day. Since switching to this plugin, we have zero. The conversions would show up in our Google ads account.
Many thanks for sharing @korvak. From reviewing your site I can see that the standard Google Ads & Analytics snippet as placed via Site Kit has been modified. Having said that, visits to your site are firing in Google Analytics, with a Google Ads tag also recognized (screenshot).
I can see some
defer
attributes added to the tags place by Site Kit, and these can impact reporting and conversions. Such attributes are not added to the snippet when inserted via Site Kit, so it’s possible one of your other active plugins, possibly CDN Cache Plugin, or something at host level is impacting normal snippet behavior. To troubleshoot this further, can you temporarily disable any caching plugins and check to ensure your Google Ads and Google Analytics snippet appear as per this guide, without any defer attribute? I’m happy to check your site once more after doing so.
You may also wish to check out this guide with regards to troubleshooting conversions.
Thank you for catching that. I am using FlyingPress plugin, which allows me to exclude specific scripts from being deferred. Can you tell me which script names to type into the exclude box that are needed by SiteKit?

I believe, if I enter them here, it might resolve the issue. I’m not sure what the Site Kit scripts are called so that I can properly exclude them. For testing purposes, I have disabled FlyingPress completely, so nothing is deferred. Are you still seeing an issue with my tag or does it appear to be loading normally now?
Thanks for the update @korvak. When checking your site at present I don’t see any defer attribute, however, I don’t see any Google Analytics or Google Ads snippet placed. It looks like you may have since added these via Tag Manager. If so, can you confirm all is working as expected?
Can you tell me which script names to type into the exclude box that are needed by SiteKit?
If you wish to enable FlyingPress once more, the scripts to exclude for Site Kit may be added by one of the following:
/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/dist/assets/js/(.*).js
/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.
Even with all caching disabled, none of our conversions were recording within our Google Ads account. We set up an apointment with the Google Tag team, and used screen sharing to make sure the tags were enabled and verified them with Tag Assistant. We noticed an issue where the analytics tag not showing a hit in Tag Assistant — so that’s why they disabled the native implementation of both Ads and Analytics, and instead set them up through Tag Manager. They told me to wait 24-hours, and check if the issue is resolved within Google Ads. Unfortunately, we still have ZERO conversions recorded in Google Ads.
Finally, I disabled Google Site Kit — and enabled my old plugin (it’s called Pixel Manager) — and immediately within 1-2 hours, our conversions are recording now.
Google Site Kit does not work on my site. I don’t know why. If you want to investigate this, I’m willing to share administrative access to someone trusted within your development team. For now, I had to go back to using my old plugin — and conversions are working again.-

Thanks for sharing the additional information @korvak, appreciate you sharing your findings from testing with the Google Ads support team.

I’d certainly be happy to check this. Can you share from your testing, whether you had the option within Site Kit to not include logged in traffic active? By default logged in traffic is not counted, and I ask as the tests you conducted may have been tests from your own site visits.
Given the same occurred with a Tag Manager implementation, I suspect this isn’t the issue, but it is worth checking if you’re looking to use Site Kit once more.

I checked your site just now and indeed I can see my own visit is being recorded in Google Analytics, with the Google Ads tag also present. When comparing this in Tag Assistant to the Tag Assistant report when placed via Site Kit I don’t see any difference, meaning there may be something wrong with detection at Google Ads level. I will perform some checks on this while keeping you up to date here if I can recreate the same experience. I’ll also discuss this with the team. Please allow me a few days before I have an update. Thank you.
Thanks for investigating. We had the setting like this:
https://img001.prntscr.com/file/img001/093msdRdTPuV6vQG-o3gsw.png
Active which is how it is by default after connecting it.Just so you know, I enabled Site Kit again for 24 hours just for more testing. I will test until tomorrow.
Hi @korvak and @jamesosborne
Since the Pixel Manager got mentioned, I allow myself to chime in and add some info. I’m the developer of the Pixel Manager.
When both Google Site Kit and the Pixel Manager are enabled, the Pixel Manager will take over the
gtag.js
insertion and disable the one from Google Site Kit. That way, you can use all other Google Site Kit features and our Pixel Mananger’s core feature, advanced tracking code management, at the same time. This way the Pixel Manager will send all data to Google and Google Site Kit will be able to use the data. Thus, by enabling both, you should be able to work around the issue you’re facing here.
Let me know if you try it and how it goes. I’d be interested to hear that it works as suggested.
Thanks for the input @alekv. Very useful to know.
@korvak Regarding your comments below, so we can try to determine more on this, please share the specific conversions you were tracking that do work when not using Site Kit. I can then set up a site similar to your own, while then performing some checks on the same conversions.

I’m referring to the conversions within the Google Ads account. Here is a screenshot from yesterday where you can see 39 converisons (We were using Pixel Manager plugin):
https://prnt.sc/T25Vr-s4gwK3
And here is a screenshot from a couple days ago when using Site Kit plugin:
https://prnt.sc/DFyxaY9y8LI8
As you can see, Site Kit plugin is not recording any conversions within the Google Ads account. Thanks for the update @korvak. We discussed this yesterday and the team were curious about these conversions. Based on the information you kindly shared, these are only Google Ads conversions, from clicking on ads across the Google Ads/Google search network to your site. Unfortunately this will be hard to recreate from a support perspective, but I will update you here once I have any update, or if I have any questions. Thank you.
