    Hello,

Received an email today from Google stating:

“To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0.”

Will this affect “Easy WP SMTP”?

    Thanks.

  • Hi, I have not tested this myself. Can you carry out a test and report back with any issues.

    Thank you.

I got the same email. Will go into effect May 30, 2022.

I have this plugin on 6 sites for login resends and forms etc, but can’t afford for google to block it.

It seems to flag this app as “less secure”.

`What do you need to do?
An app or device which uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send emails using your Google Account has less secure access to your Gmail. This might be an older device, like a printer or scanner. To continue using your Google Account with this app or device:

App – Remove your Google Account from the app or device and sign in again using Sign in with Google
Device – Change your device’s settings so you’re using more secure sign-in technology`

They post a link to this page: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?rfn=1646361360139&anexp=nret-fa&pli=1#zippy=

I think the plugin needs to be rewritten with “sign-in with Google” in mind or people with gmail smtp will be discontinued.

Thank you. We will investigate this and try to come up with a solution for the gmail SMTP.

Is there any solution to this, do you know? I’m already having issues and none of the settings will allow me to get this to work, or emails be sent.

@germars, Are you talking about Gmail SMTP or just standard SMTP from your webhost?

We have to create a new solution for the Gmail SMTP. We are developing it at the moment. We should have a solution for it over the next week or so.

Thanks, i will test it with Gmail once you’re finished. You can notify me when it’s done. I’m in discussion about local email on Facebook at the moment and would like to update the group.

Sorry for the delay @wpinsider-1 , We ended up using your plugin and that worked for email coming from our domain but through gmail. It worked fine. We were trying to use Easy SMTP. I’ll keep watching for messages here about how it will work in future, if it needs to be changed. Thanks!

Do you have any updates on the investigation @wpinsider-1 ? All less secure apps such as Easy SMTP will be blocked from using the google sign in process. Please see below for more information

    Hi

Do you have news about that?
Here it have stopped to work yesterday.

    Hi,

Any update on this? This plugin has stopped working for me today and I believe it’s because Google has stopped allowing the use of insecure apps.
I figured it’d be best to tag onto this chat instead of creating a new one but let me know if you’d rather a new ticket is raised.

    Thanks

We have moved on to another plugin that utilizes the Gmail API to work around Easy WP SMTP’s current plugin limitations. Search “How to Set Up the Google Workspace / Gmail Mailer in WP Mail SMTP” and follow the steps if you need to address this in a timely manner. Transition was seamless for us.

Hi all, someone provided a solution for this.

Let me know if that helps you.
