Hi! I’m starting to add products to my online store (my only store) and am a little overwhelmed by all of the SEO advice.
I sell jewelry and accessories, so my descriptions are not even close to being 300 words (if they were, it would be unnecessary and probably irritating to customers). They’re basically a short description of the look, materials, and size- not even close to 300 words. Also, I use a lot of the tags/keywords repeatedly (for example, I have many pairs of earrings. “Earrings” is my keyword on so many items), which I believe is not recommended. I don’t really need headings or links, either.
I have the SEO plug-in by Yoast and like it a lot. But following their tips only gives me an “ok” SEO. Do you have any advice as to how I can improve my SEO without being too wordy/adding unnecessary words, links, etc?
Thanks so much!! There is so much information that it’s a little overwhelming for beginners like me.
    ps- my site is https://www.sleeneys.com

  • Don’t be too concerned about SEO like that. As far as keywords, the best thing is to use ‘ear rings’ in your category page, and then in each product page, use the actual product name (or a basic description) as the keyword/phrase.

As more info, while the SEO plugin does give great advice, it is not the “ultimate answer” to good SEO. Good SEO will build over time, and get better, so just be patient, don’t do anything stilly and you will get there.

Thank you SO much!! So, I should make earrings two separate words?
Thanks again so much- I appreciate your help and advice!

I don’t know if ear rings should be one word or two. You should do your own keyword research to see whats the ‘best’ option for you.
