• s2Member is an amazingly powerful plugin, but it is held back by the dreadful support and utter lack of documentation. To figure out how to do pretty much anything, you have to go into the source code to see how it works, or – obviously – buy the Pro version.

When you offer a free version as a taster to a ‘pro’ version, it would be better to make the free version usable. Crippling it by withdrawing support (like closing down your support forum) and pulling documentation reduces sales.

  • “Utter lack of documentation”? “Crippled”? What are you talking about?

Apart from all the explanations of each aspect of the plugin alongside each function, there are 11 top-level pages in the s2Member Knowledge Base, each referring to over 20 different aspects of the plugin (over 250 articles in all, in fact). They are all accessible for free.

    Just go to https://s2member.com/kb/

    Hello Jeremy,

We’ve been using this plugin for a few years now on our sites, I can vouch for the support and documentation.

We’re very happy with the plugin.

On a side note, don’t pay any attention to the condescending little parasite who commented immediately after you. He’s on some sort of twisted quest for authority and often renders this forum with his unsolicited views and conjecture. Definitely not representative of the s2member support that I’m familiar with.

This is a very comprehensive plugin and there’s a lot to learn.

Hang in there, you’ll be glad you did.

Sorry. Tried it. Couldn’t find the necessary documentation (community support = the blind leading the blind) Ditched it and moved onto something that is working just fine.

I’m amazed at how many developers think that:

    a) I’m interested in their feedback on my feedback, and
    b) Expect me to battle through the source code of plugins trying to figure out how to use a plugin.

IIRC, I pimped a function from another plugin and got what I wanted. It took me an hour, compared to the half day wasted trying to figure out how to use s2Members. As a developer with hundreds of sites under my belt, I’d suggest that the issue lies with s2Members. I won’t give it another chance.

No. Life’s too short, not to mention my development timescales.

i agree, bad support. they wont even listen to me, they’re in denial..
