Good Implementation, but GA Prior Consent Needs…
-
For the most part, the Cookiebot plugin (I use the free version) works as advertised and will definitely help you become GDPR compliant.
However, the basic documentation for “prior consent” (getting a user to consent to Google Analytics cookies prior to setting them) needs much work! I was unable to get it to work properly for several weeks.
I finally stumbled across their instructions for using Google Tag Manager to implement “prior consent” and it works very well! Using this method in combination with another plugin to maintain header and footer code changes, I am confident that all my work will carry over in subsequent WP updates.
I tested the setting of GA cookies in Firefox by using a database browser to confirm when they were actually set (only after consent was given).
Cookiebot should highlight the GTM method of implementation rather than what is listed on the plug-in page.
