• I hate to give anything except a great rating, since I very much appreciate those who made this plugin and make it available – thank you! And I recommend it, over the other popular caching plugin, as easier to use and set up.

But I find fault with the documentation and support forum. I understand that it must be nearly impossible to respond to support requests on such a hugely popular and widely used plugin, especially a caching plugin which, by its nature, is likely to generate questions. My several support threads have gone basically unanswered, even though I’ve tried to create them so that answers would benefit many people besides myself. But again, seeing the large volumes of support request threads generated each week, I can understand why – there are simply an overwhelming number of questions!

This is exactly why I am disappointed in the available documentation. If the documentation within the plugin page itself were thorough, or if there were thorough documentation on the author’s website, or if there were thorough and complete tutorials available online which could be pointed to, then there would be many less questions in the plugin forum, since people would have the tools to answer their own questions. The large volume of questions in the forum attests to the need for better documentation.

As I noted in (an as yet unanswered) support thread, I would like to see a thorough tutorial that explains how to decide for yourself on your settings for each and every option – not one which only gives its author’s recommendations on what setting options to choose. This is an important distinction.

Every tutorial that I’ve found just gives the author’s personal recommendations – based mostly on their own needs – and so each one naturally gives different recommendations than the others! We need documentation that explains what each option is for, and how to decide for ourselves on the best settings to choose.

Of course, since each website environment is unique, each user’s settings choices should be personalized to their own particular needs. A few of the best tutorials that I’ve found give explanations which help you to decide which option would work best in your own particular environment – but only for some of the settings – and none are thorough in that regard.

Rather than trying to answer the avalanche of support questions, it would be great if the plugin author, along with anyone else they could recruit to help, could create an official, comprehensive guide to using WP Super Cache. Isn’t it obvious that one is needed?
