Good – but don′t use it in Germany to avoid copyright lawsuits

  • The plugin is technically great.

    But in Germany, where I live, you can get sued for violation of copyrights when you embed content this way, especially the pictures. I was just warned that a lawyer wants to sue unless I desist from showing the picture of an embedded article.

    So my suggestion to the programmer: include an option page where one can choose:
    -show headlines
    -show teasertext
    -show pictures

    Hi Viktor,

    It’s currently possible to not automatically mirror the image to your site in the settings page for the plugin.

    You can also customize the output by building a custom template, which is described in the documentation.

    Thank you, Stanislav, for getting back to me about this.

    I was not aware and have changed the setting. But that does not take out the pictures from article previews that I already have, right?
    At least they are still there after changing the setting and emptying the cache.

    Sorry, my last answer was wrong. I actually had the setting “Should Content Cards cache images to Media Library?” not activated.

    You are right, the images will still be shown, but they will be linked via the other site, same way as Facebook does it for previews.

    Because these images are explicitly set by website owners for the purpose of representing their article in a preview, we think it would be at least some sort of gray area.

    We will consider your feature request for a future version! ??

    Unfortunately it is a grey area. For big companies with coffers full of money and an army of lawyers no problem, but small website owners – like i guess most of your users are – can get into real trouble with this.

    So I suggest you include this in a version in the not too distant future.
