  • I’m aware of the issue. Unfortunately, there is no solution available right now.

Overall performance could be improved (to some extent), but there’s no way to greatly reduce the amount of traffic. To do its job, the plugin has to periodically check each link. That can really add up when you have a large site with thousands of links.

Could the plugin parse the links into groups and scan only 1 group each day? So if a site has a 1,000 links, scan only 100 links each day aside from new ones.

Also, adding a time slot for the scans to run could help. Most websites have little traffic around the 1am-3am time frame so performance wouldn’t be affected nearly as much.

That would mean each individual link would only be checked once every ten days, or even less frequently if the site has more than 1000 links. At that point, you might as well use a client-side link checker like Xenu’s Link Sleuth and manually run a full site scan twice a month. Broken Link Checker is intended to provide ongoing link monitoring, not infrequent or on-demand scans.

That would help, but I suspect it wouldn’t drastically improve performance. It would also require the user to configure the time slots (I expect they’d vary by time zone, country, and perhaps even season).
