I commented out the AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED line in wp-config.php, but Easy Updates Manager still says it cannot update my WordPress files.

The following constants are set and will prevent automatic updates in Easy Updates Manager.
Please check your wp-config.php file or other files for these constants and remove them to allow Easy Updates Manager to have control.

AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED: This constant disables any automatic updates

  • Hi @alanhalley

If it was set to true in your wp-config.php file and you’ve commented it out. It could be that other plugins/mu-plugins are also overriding the constant (AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED). You could deactivate all of your plugins except Easy Updates Manager and then reactivate each plugin one by one and see which plugin that causes EUM to have shown the warning message.

    Thanks

    Hi, Anthon,

I deactivated all the plugins except EUM and automatic updates are still disabled. Could I set the constant to “false”, perhaps?

    Thanks.

    Hi Alan,

The AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED constant is false by default, but it’s okay to set it false if you want. I assume that after you deactivate all of your plugins, EUM doesn’t show the message warning anymore, does it?. But, if you’re still having problems with automatic updating, you could use the WordPress site health tool wp-admin/site-health.php to see if your site has some critical issues. Typically, if there’s an issue with auto/background updating you will get Your site may have problems auto-updating plugins and themes and/or Background updates are not working as expected messages listed in the site health status`.

    Thanks
    Anthon
