• Help Trying to install wordpress for the first time and keep coming up with this error, ive check all the information several times and its all correct. ive deleated and recreated the config file, ive done everything i can think of but nothings working.

Im using go daddys free hosting that came with my domain name purchase (since they wont let me use the automated service for some reason unbeknown to either me or there support staff)

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at (server location). This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

  • Ah I see others have had some similar issues with Godaddy & WordPress. I have recently uploaded my wordpress site and everything was running well, until about two days ago, I now get the dreaded error establishing a database connection.

I have tried everything in this post, checked, re-checked my wp-config.php file, deleted it and gone through the steps described by zombiebaby but still no luck. The only thing I can think of is there might be an issue with WordPress 2.9.1 as the last thing I had recently done on the site was an upgrade.

If anyone else has had these problems recently, and found a solution, please, I would love to hear from you. my site is below

I’m having the same issue since upgrading to WP 2.9.1.

I upgraded to 2.9.1 last night and my site was OK this morning. I uploaded some new pics for the WP NextGEN gallery plug-in and then everything went down.

Prior to installing WP 2.9.1, my site has been live and running without issue for almost a year.

I have checked the wp-config.php file. It is correct.

I’m getting the same error and can’t login in at wp-admin. When I try my site I get a 500 Internal Server Error.

Anyone had any luck getting this fixed?

Just came across your posts. Looks like things are okay with your sites now. Please let me know if you still need some assistance.

I see that the problems must have been corrected with the previous posts. I have tried everything. Calling GoDaddy, checking my config file over and over. Can someone tell me how they fixed their sites?

If you feel comfortable, please post the domain name.

My site will not connect, checked the wp_config.php about 100 times.

FYI for all new installs out there. I followed Zombiebaby’s advice after three days of hell and with a few extra steps I am working. Here we go. I ftp’ed the entire wordpress 2.9 into my files under hosting control with out updating wp-config-sample or creating a new wp-config. Basically downloaded it from wprdpress and then re uploaded it. Then followed zombiebaby’s info, all of your setting are located in hosting control/databases/my sql then click the pencil icon to see your info. Once that was completed it tried to install but since all of the files were there it couldn’t. So I went into hosting control/databases/my sql and clicked the manage button nexted to your host name which will take you to a logn screen. Your name is what your HOST name is not your account name. Then input your password, after that navigate to databases and then your database name. Drop (delete)the 20 some odd files in there and log out. After that type your url plus /wp-admin/install.php . It should take you through the rest of in setup process.

I hope this helps, this has been a three day ordeal and a lot of angry emails.
