Hi, We have google workspace account (paid) with our own domain and successfully use WPSMTP to send automated emails from our WordPress website without issue. To do so, it is not longer sufficient to simply enter Gmail’s SMTP details, you must now do so via Google’s API using an authenticaiton key.

We would like to continue to use our Google Workspace account to send emails if possible. However, I can’t see anywhere in MailPoet that would allow us to do this. Do you know if it’s possible at this time?

    Hello there @dgilfillan

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Good news! You should indeed be able to set up MailPoet to send emails using your Google Workspace account via SMTP. Our guide provides comprehensive instructions on configuring SMTP or a third-party sender for your MailPoet newsletters. Below, I’ve outlined the essential steps to help you with the setup, referencing information from the guide you were looking into:

    1. Accessing the Send With Tab: In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to MailPoet’s settings and locate the ‘Send With…’ tab to begin configuring your sending method.
    2. Choosing SMTP / Third-Party Sender Option: Within this tab, there’s an option to specify an SMTP server. Here’s where you can enter details from your Google Workspace account or choose another third-party provider if you decide to.
    3. Configuration Details: You’ll need specific details such as your SMTP host address, port, encryption method, and authentication credentials. For Google Workspace, the typical SMTP settings are as follows (do verify as these can change):
      • SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
      • Encryption: Use SSL or TLS depending on what your email client supports.
      • Port: Usually 465 for SSL or 587 for TLS.
      • Authentication: On, using your Google Workspace email address and password. If using 2-Step Verification, you’ll need to generate an App Password.
    4. Send a Test Email: After entering your SMTP details, MailPoet recommends using the ‘Send a test email’ button to ensure everything is configured correctly before sending out any newsletters.
    5. Sending Limits: Be aware of the sending limits that may apply with Google Workspace accounts to avoid any interruption in service.
    6. Troubleshooting: If you encounter any issues or have any concerns during the setup process, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, and we’ll be glad to assist.

For a detailed walkthrough, here is the guide for setting up SMTP or a third-party sender with MailPoet: SMTP / Third-Party Sender Setup Guide

Please note, while MailPoet doesn’t provide support for the custom SMTP setup itself, we’re here to help you troubleshoot any issues related to our plugin.

I hope this guidance makes the setup process smooth for you. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to reply, and we’ll be more than happy to help.

    Cheers!

Hi @geraltrivia I’ve just tried regular sending again via Google Workspace account and espite using the correct credentials I receive the message:

The email could not be sent: SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

However, turning on 2-step verification in Google Workspace and replacing my usual password with an App password within the MailPoet settings seemed to work, so thank you!
