Glossary pages loads in endless loop
-
Glossary page on my website loads in endless loop. Tried every setting possible in my Version 4.2.4. I use CM Glossary for many years and this is the first time I encountered endless load loop problem.
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I tested the shortcode [glossary] on a separate page and this page loads repeatedly in endless loop.
Hello,
We’ve identified the problem. We’ll release a new version with the fix shortly.
In the new version (4.2.5) please find the option: “Enable glossary filter for the content which is loaded using AJAX” and Disable itThanks for the fix.
Default /glossary/ page works now with version 4.2.5 without endless reload, but I already created a static /glossary-static/ page that displays all glossary terms in 2 columns…

Glad that it helped! Feel free to change the Glossary Index selected in the General Settings (on the top) to the page you’ve created, and you can remove the /glossary page
Tooltips stopped working on many of my posts and pages, including the glossary page at https://chargeba.com.au . I do not know how to restore functionality that I had yesterday… I checked on individual posts and pages and they all a res est to use CM Tooltip global settings, but do not show any tooltips. Can you please help?
I tried to “reset all options” and behavior did not change at all. I may have accidentally checked the option “Move tooltip contents to footer?” but unchecking this option seems to have no effect. I also downloaded the plugin from this website and installed it, overwriting the existing one. No change in behavior. Still my static glossary page as well as the main page show no tooltips

Hi,
I just checked your page and it seems like the tooltips are working and displaying the terms on the left side.
Also I checked the Knowledge Base page and it also is showing the tooltips correctly.I gave up trying to repair and restore CMTooltip and restored database backup from 10 May when everything was working. I need a working website, not the one that displays garbage at tooltips even when there is no glossary item defined.
You can try to reproduce this as follows: enter a glossary term that has a definition ~3 pages long – 5k of text. Wait an hour and delete this looong glossary item. The removal of this long item seems to cause some damage to the database. Resetting CMTootip and removing the plugin does not repair the damage to the database. Restoration of database backup is the only solution.
CMTooltip is a nice idea – it is very useful and likeable. Maybe you should enforce some length limit to glossary definitions to minimize the chance of database damage.

Hello,
I’ve tried to replicate the problem locally and did go through all the steps even waited much longer than 1h, but the only effect after removing the term was that the term on the page was no longer highlighted.
It seems like there is some conflict that happens on your page. Could you try to setup the plugin on a separate clean website? (without any other plugins?)I am sure that your plugin will work on a clean website without other plugins. But I cannot use a website without any plugins. If there are some conflicts, there should be some error messages from CMTooltip plugin somewhere. An optional logfile would also help. Maybe a debug setting that sends things to logfile for some selected page?
My website uses Elementor Pro as a page builder and I try my best to minimize the number of plugins. I forgot to tell you that I enabled “trash” native functionality in WordPress, so deleting a glossary term (or anything else) is a 2-step process.
I noticed that tooltips do not appear on some pages like for example homepage https://chargebay.com.au/ or https://chargebay.com.au/services/ for no apparent reason. I checked all individual page settings in WP block editor and they all use CMTooltip global settings. In previous versions of CMTooltip plugin – these pages displayed tooltips nicely and no additional plugins have been added since then.
I like functionality of the CMTooltip plugin, but I consider it “touchy” and I “sensitive” to other activities on the website.
Would upgrading CMTooltip plugin to Pro provide better compatibility with Elementor Pro?
Thank you for your help

The problem is that there are way too many possible conflicts and not all of them are plain errors (coding errors). Some plugin may just do something non-standard eg. call a common filter more than once, and this will affect the way our plugin works, while not being an error. One common way to trace the source of the the problem is to disable plugins one by one and checking if that helps, and/or switching the theme temporarily to one of the default WP themes (twenty-XYZ).

It is a native/default functionality, did you mean you’ve disabled it?

There’s an options that’s enabled by default: “Only show terms on single posts/pages (not Homepage, authors etc.)?” it’s in the General Settings, disabling it will make the tooltips be parsed on the archive pages and homepage too.

We resolve the conflict with various builders much quicker for Pro versions, but eventually we try to ship all the bugfixes to the free version as well.
In case of Elementor, the most important thing is to enable the option?Move tooltip contents to footer? in the General Settings.I am an experienced CM Tooltip user for several years (>10 websites). I made sure that options that you suggested are already set as you suggested, along with all other options.
Still, on some pages – tooltips do not show for no apparent reason. Can you please let me know what I need to do to help debug the problem? I am a programmer since 1975.
BTW. Before I upgraded CMTooltip plugin to the latest version, tooltips were showing nicely on my homepage and /services/ page…
Should I try to install an older version? I assume that new settings will not be altered. I have versions 4.2.2 and 4.2.3 .
Downgraded to 4.2.3 and now everything works super perfectly. This hint should help you to diagnose the situation and improve compatibility of CMTooltip plugin. ??

I just realized that you’re using Astra theme on your website, one of the latest ‘fixes’ we applied broke the functionality of the Astra theme, 4.2.7 version should fix it. Please check, perhaps it will solve your problems. If not, feel free to stay at the 4.2.3 – so far the subsequent versions were mostly specific bugfixes.
4.2.7 works nicely on my chargebay.com.au website, just like 4.2.3 . Thank you for your help
Astra released update to 4.1.5 . When I tried to update – the update failed, system went to maintenance mode and when it returned, CMTooltip plugin functionality is altered in headers H1 on some pages regardless of CMTooltip settings.
The system says that the update failed, but when I request core update – it tells that all themes and plugins are up to date.
