Global CSS Settings Gone

  • I have just updated to Raindrops version 1.429 and all of the global CSS settings I did amongst other are all back to default.

    I finally after several years got his site looking exactly the way I wanted and it all got wiped out with just an update.

    Is this suppoed to happen?

    Now I have to figure out what I did to make it the way I want it.

    unfortunately yes.

    Be sure to check out child themes. This is the recommended method of modifying a theme.

    It now seems that when I go in and change my settings under customize post or menu they do not save consistently.

    I wll never upgrade again, actually going to go back as this version is extremely buggy

    Sorry to hear that. Although you seriously should check out Child themes as they prevent your theme from beeing changed.

    Also I recommend to backup your full WordPress installation regularly.

    There is no video link and I need tons of help.

    I read the codex thing as was OK at the beginning then it got to confusing.

    I know absolutely nothing about code or css or php. hence the reason I am using Word Press.

    Try to understand the principles of a child theme.
    I don’t know if it still is relevant to you even though you don’t know how to code. I never used a child theme but created the themes by myself only.

    Are you still experiencing any trouble with saving the customizations?

    Yes. The customization’s are not working for me.

    Neither is the site wide css.

    All revert back to default.

    I guess I can’t help you with that, maybe there’s another one who can submit his ideas.
    But, it wouldn’t be too bad if you’d provide some screenshots of your problem.

    I am trying to hide the posted date, posted by, poster avatar and category.

    It does not work anymore in customization.

    also trying to modify the footer text. that also used to work via side wide CSS until this last update. Not no settings retain other than default.

    This is the 3rd topic in this support forum over the last 24 hours reporting this same problem, the issue is a bug with the latest update, child themes will not help.

    Don’t feel too badly, I’ve been doing web design for 20 years now and I still find that codex article impossible to parse. Even the video supplied above is 22 minutes to explain how to use them, it’s obviously unclear when it takes that long to explain. AND that also ignores the fact that the Raindrops theme has its own system for using child themes outside the existing WordPress code.

    And I haven’t been able to customize my Goaddy hosted sites since the update three weeks ago. They keep reverting back to default. Before the update this morning, the custonization was holding for up to two or three hours most of the time but now they revert before I can finish customizine.
    My Hostgator sites were fine though until the Raindrops update this morning and as soon as I updated one of them the crap hit the fan and I couldn’t customize it either.
    I won’t be updating any more of my 8 remaining sites that are still looking okay but have now had to find another theme to use on my 6 sites that Raindrops no longer works.
    Looks like there are others sharing the same problem as me and that’s not nice!

    Wow, this is the first time I’ve heard of a theme wiping out it’s custom CSS option on an update. The whole point behind having such an option is to protect against changes dues to theme updates. Just poor implementation, IMO.

    If you do not want to create a child theme, you can also use a Custom CSS plugin like Jetpack or Custom CSS Manager. A custom CSS plugin will not wipe out your CSS settings (or should not) between theme or plugin updates. I always prefer using a CSS plugin even if the theme has its own custom CSS option so that I can keep my CSS even if I switch themes.

    I don’t know if macdow68 here tried the Jetpack plugin or not because he appears to not know, like I don’t, what the child theme is.

    But I tried the Jetpack and it made no change. Went to CUSTOMIZE/PRESENTATION/LAYOUT AND SIDEBARS and made my changes there. Then went to CUSTOMIZE/PRESENTATION/FONTSIZE and saw that the changes I made in layout and sidebars had already changed back.
