GK Portfolio – Remove White Bar on Static Page and Thumbnails

I had a question on how to remove the White Bar on my static page. It doesn’t show up in Internet Explorer but in Chrome it does. I changed my backgrounds from white to black, but it doesn’t seem to work the same between Chrome and Internet Explorer. Any suggestions.

The other dilemma I have is with my thumbnails in the portfolio. I have a white border around all the images but when it creates the thumbnail it shows parts of the white border and none on others. Is there a way to get the thumbnails to crop from the center instead of resizing edge to edge without having to remove feature image and creating separate thumbnails and separate images in the post itself?
