• hey there,

i started out trying to actually move all my files from ./thesis/blog to ./thesis in order to shorten my URL, before realizing that i should follow these directions to simply redirect. (there is always an easier way…) so i deleted the mountain of wordpress files that i already copied into the root folder and followed these instructions.

i changed the blog address and wordpress address on the settings page, copied index.php in the root folder, edited this file to redirect, and copied .htaccess into the root folder.

then my blog committed suicide when i got to the “change permalinks” step.

i went to elizabethfilardi.com/thesis and saw my blog (without any css- without the theme i picked, for reasons unknown). when i attempted to login, i got a “500 error” message. when i attempted to login through the options page, my password didn’t work. when i requested it be emailed, i never received the mail.

this seems like a simple problem of files being in the wrong place, but i checked everything twice. help?

    thanks so much!

    -liz

  • When you say you copied the index and htaccess… you mean you have now 2 of them: one in the thesis and one in the blog directory, right? With the necessary chnages in BOTH.

yes those updated files are in both directories. actually, the index.php file is in
    ./thesis
    ./thesis/blog
    and
    ./thesis/blog/wp-admin

this is because i thought the index.php was supposed to be in wp-admin. i’m not sure that makes any difference.

EVERY folder is supposed to have an index file but they are NOT the same.
The wp-admin’s index should look completely different. Who said you need to mees with that one? If you replaced the roiginal index in the wp-admin, that’s no good.

However, you did not answer about the htaccess files (and it also needs to be edited for its new location in thesis).

ok, i think i’m going to reinstall. there wasn’t anything on this blog yet anyhow. thanks!
