• Using free version of MailPoet (if that matters for this issue). I am having an issue while testing subscriber form. I am not currently using the built-in MailPoet service for sending emails, but my own domain’s host instead. The host and credentials to use it work fine when I send a test email using “MailPoet –> Settings –> Send With” and the “WP Mail SMTP” plugin.

I’ve also confirmed the domain (let’s say it’s mydomain.com), added all the necessary DNS records (CNAME, TXT, SPF record), set up the default sender as [email protected], set up the host with the same email and its corresponding password. When I try to subscribe, I get the following error message:

“There was an error when sending…” (message cut off and even view source of the iframe won’t show it).

It IS subscribing the test account I used. I guess it is just the notification to admin email that is not going out.

Thanks for any help you can give!

If I can get some help with the above issue, I’ll be happy to buy the $120/yr version. But I need to know:

    (a) The product works.

    (b) The company actually pays attention to issues like this and addresses them.

    Hi there @scottermonk,

That “There was an error when sending…” message after submitting a sign-up form would generally indicate an issue with the configured sending method, and would indicate that the confirmation email couldn’t sent to the subscriber.

However, without additional information — particularly since you are sending with your own sending method, rather than our sending service — it’s a pretty generic message and hard to say what specifically is going wrong.

I tried submitting the form on your https://attilahorvath.net/blog-2/ page, and after filling in the Captcha challenge, I saw the same error returned from the admin-ajax.php call:

I’d recommend checking with your host to make sure your FROM address (under MailPoet > Settings > Basics) is allowed to send emails through your server.

Aside from that, please check under MailPoet > Settings > Advanced, and make sure Logging is enabled. If it wasn’t already, then enable it and try submitting the form again to generate logs. Then check the logs to see if there are any detailed error messages there to explain why the sending failed.

Please let me know how that goes, or if you have any questions!

Thanks, Kelly, for taking the time to help!

    A few things:

    • Re: making sure my SMTP is set up to work, please re-read the part of my original issue where I already verified that. I even removed/re-added that email address. Here is what I said above: “The host and credentials to use it work fine when I send a test email using “MailPoet –> Settings –> Send With” and the “WP Mail SMTP” plugin.”
    • Re: logs; Logs have been on, and here is the consistent message: [2024-12-12T15:26:04.856612+00:00] cron.ERROR: Sending has been paused. {“error”:”[object] (Exception(code: 0): Sending has been paused. at /home/u747464423/domains/attilahorvath.net/public_html/wp-content/plugins/mailpoet/lib/Mailer/MailerLog.php:102)”,”worker”:”SendingQueue”} {“free_plugin_version”:”5.4.2″,”premium_plugin_version”:”premium not installed”}

Thanks for any other ideas you may have!

    Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us! Taking a step back to your original message, you mentioned this:

I’ve also confirmed the domain (let’s say it’s mydomain.com), added all the necessary DNS records (CNAME, TXT, SPF record), set up the default sender as [email protected]

Can you confirm that you’ve added the DNS records from your sending provider? I’m asking because the MailPoet DNS records should only be added when sending with the MailPoet Sending Service. Otherwise, you should add your sending provider’s DNS records.

Thanks for sending the logs. We can see that sending is paused by it’s not clear why.

Can you please send us the following information:

    • A screenshot of the MailPoet > Help > System Status page. Please ensure to capture the whole page or make several screenshots.
    • Copy and paste the information from MailPoet > Help > System Info. (Make sure to remove email addresses before pasting the details here).

    Thank you!
