Getting rid of ?page=1 in URL

I kind of presumed this was maybe a potential hack.

Currently I have a blog running on a domain, the domain loads up a static page. I still want to use the kinda traditional wordpress blog as a sub-page however the URL displays as ?page=1

I was wondering if its possible to mask this url extention with something more meaningful and SEO friendly. I understand this will probably change navigation on the site what with getting rid of the dynamic URL.
