Getting logged out, lagging or disappearing database

  • I’ve been having an intermittent problem for some time now with my site. I especially notice it when this happens, but this is just an example:

    • I go to my Dashboard
    • I click on Comments (to edit/approve comments)
    • The page loads, loads, loads… minutes pass….
    • Now, I may be logged out (back to the username/password page) – this seems to happen most often, or be told “this page has moved”, or in rare occasions the site will act like the database is totally blank (no posts, no comments)

    Now sometimes there seems to be problems just accessing the main page of the site, or other pages of the admin. It doesn’t always happen, so I’ve had trouble narrowing down the problem. Any ideas?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    try the above plugins suggestion, if that fails repair the wp_options table and see if that fixes it

    The problem is that the issue is intermittent. I tried disabling all plugins – everything was fine. One by one activated them, and eventually activated all but a few.

    Everything looked great!

    But the problem is back.

    I have also tried repairing the wp_options table, and it also <i>seems</i> to help for a while, but then – the problem returns.

    When I had similar intermittent problems like that…someone suggested this, and it’s a wild shot in the dark…but it worked permanently for me.

    (something to do with ajax authentication or something they said)

    in your general settings, under wordpress url and blog url, do both addresses (if they are not the same) either have or not have www?

    If one has www and one does not, it makes things go freaky apparently

    Thanks RVoodoo – I took a look, but they’re both the same.

    Any other ideas?
