Getting HTML to work in 2.2

I’ve just installed 2.2 – from 2.0.3; no problems except that the html edit window has disappeared.

I’ve done the obvious – found profile, unchecked rich visual, saved, etc – the docs say “click the html button” (the way it used to work) but there’s no HTML button anywhere.

I use opera and/or firefox on Solaris. When I enter:

<P>
Some text followed by [cr]
and more stuff
<P> (or </P><P> )
the [cr] is treated as a <BR>.

How do i fix things so pasted in HTML (stuff that works properly in any browser) works in the WP editor?
