• I’m trying to install Google Analytics to my blog; and this requires the “Insert Headers and Footers” plugin. I’ve downloaded the “Insert Header and Footer” plugin; but when I try to extract the folder into my wp_content/plugins folder, the extract keeps stopping at between 75% and 84%, and will not finish installing. I’m getting 8 different “Can not open output file” error messages, and the install hangs up there. I tried giving it hours, but that didn’t work. I’ve downloaded the plugin multiple times, using multiple browsers (Firefox and Chrome); but nothing is getting me past this obstacle. I have not had this problem installing other plugins.

    Anybody know what’s happening here?

    Thank you

    Deek

  • Most likely a problem with file permissions.

Instead of doing the install from within WordPress, suggest that you unzip the files on your own computer and then upload these files by FTP.

I have no idea how to do that via FTP; but if you could explain the process or point me to a useful link, I’ll give that a try.

But I HAVE successfully installed other plugins recently without altering the permissions. So could this plugin be somehow forcing more restrictive permissions issues than previous ones have? That strikes me as unlikely

Yes, a change in permissions would be unlikely.

As for FTP, install Filezilla, a free download and has versions for most OS. Get the FTP settings from your web management, just read them off your cPanel, use your web hosting name and password.

Otherwise you could use the web hosting management file manager to upload the files.

I downloaded and installed Filezilla; but in the site Manager of the App, it’s asking me for information that I don’t have, for instance my cPanel password. What is that? I’ve never even heard the term before, and I’m being asked for this information. I can’t get the new site to connect, since I don’t understand where it wants me to get my login credentials from.

    Here’s the page I’m on:

Ah, so I understand that you are the author and developer of the WordPress site, but someone else in the organisation is managing the website hosting. (Many even most of the people here are doing both).
You need to find and talk to the person in your organisation who manages the web hosting, they would have been involved with getting your WordPress going initially. They may not be able to give you the management password, in which case they can setup an FTP account for you, get these details from them.
If they need help with this, then introduce them to this support thread.

BOOM. That worked. I went to Bluehost, set up an FTP account, then successfully FTP’d the files for the “Install Headers” plugin into its proper place. I’m slowly chipping away at this blog overhaul.

    So thanks immensely!
