I have not added or changed the plugins I use.

    So, no plugins were updated?

It must have something to do with Instagram.

Instagram works fine. All the demos work without issues.

No plugins were updated. I know it is instagram only. Flickr works. And I just did the authorization. So something with Instagram API must have changed. My website is photolarry.com if you wish to have a look at it.

Can I turn on debugging or alter the code to help you diagnose this??

Again this is what I get on page 3 when trying to add instagram gallery:

No data returned. Error code 403
    Choose Type of Gallery
What do you want to show?
    Single Photo

This just started happening 2 days ago I think. So I am certain it is something to do with Instagram itself (Flickr works). I have tried everything. I even saw a post on here from 2 years ago that you did troubleshooting but it was different from my situation. Do you have any other ideas how to troubleshoot???

Perhaps the PHP version changed? I am not sure. I am going to attempt to build the server instance. But this will take at least an hour. I will post again if this fixes the error. Meantime if you have any ideas please post them.

As I have written above, there is nothing wrong with Instagram’s API – you can refer to the demo link that I posted. All photos come up fine.

PHP version where? If your server has not changed, there should be no impact to the PHP version.

Can I turn on debugging or alter the code to help you diagnose this??

You can turn on the debugging via Photonic → Settings → Generic Options → Advanced → Turn on debug logging. Not sure if it will print actionable information in this case, though. You should see something come up in the wizard when you do this.

Rebuilt server and still getting error only for instagram not flickr

WordPress debug log is showing the line ‘Connection refused’ and the page with the shortcode for the feed is displaying ‘Unknown error’.

What hosting provider are you on? If you are getting a “connection refused” error, that is symptomatic of a connection problem between your host and Instagram. What errors show up in the gallery Wizard? What errors show up in the wizard after you activate the debug logging?

Self hosted. I control everything in Ubuntu

I’m totally convinced this isn’t my server or website but Instagram. And proof is that another user reported same thing. Flickr works!

If you see the quoted text right above my comment, my question was for @medleyz. They specifically mentioned that they were seeing a “Connection refused” error in their log – that is indicative of a break between their host and Instagram.

I’m totally convinced this isn’t my server or website but Instagram. And proof is that another user reported same thing. Flickr works!

Rarely, if ever, does correlation imply causation :-). I can assure you that nothing has changed with Instagram’s API. Things may have changed with respect to their policies around token validity, but that has nothing to do with their API. To offer you a different type of “proof”, the demo site, which has been running Instagram’s current API for about 3 years seems to be working fine. My site is complex, and has Photonic settings dating back to 2011, so I might have historical settings that let it work. Those are the types of situations that I need to eliminate with your site.

I know I said that it might not print any actionable information, but have you tried the debug suggestion that I offered above?

    (@photolarry)

What debugging? You did not give me any clear instructions on how to debug and then give you some sort of log or additional information. If I turn on this option in advanced, where do things get logged?

Huh? I said this in the above:

After you turn on the option, are you seeing something come up in the Wizard when you go through the steps to build a gallery?

Also how do you explain fllickr galleries working but only Instagram isnt?? And this was suddenly happening without any code changing on my end (same plugins and same themes). There may have been update to theme but I ruled this out as I switched to default theme and still get the error. I am not a programmer(any longer) but seems this 403 error is the key to figuring out where the issue is. I am unable to see any post with instagram photo inserted on entire blog. And if I try making a new post and adding a photo from instagram, when I choose single photo and next, it will not display stream of photos to select. I get same 403 error. So how do we interpret this so as to find the point of problem? I strongly feel like plugin conflicts or theme conflicts are NOT the problem root. It is communications with Instagram. And I know the API has not changed. I just know this was not an issue until a few days ago. The only other thing I know to try is restoring to a backup from September 14. That is the day after I added top post.
