• When going to my public site, you get “Error establishing a database connection”. I had gone to myPHPAdmin and logged into the database – but then logged out without doing anything. I can only assume that this is when something went wrong. Is there a switch or toggle to re-open the database after having logged in? I just went back to myPHPAdmin and logged back in and got in fine (as far as I can tell). Just can’t get to my public site (and therefore can’t log in or post anything).

  • just logging in or out to phpmyadmin doesnt corrupt databases.. check your databases.. its not a prob of wordpress at all.. however you may change db details in wp-config file if you make new dbs or change user permission and passwords

    sarmadhassan is right.

Your configuration in the wp-config.php file is the key. Check that your database name, username, password are correct.

Another issue for this problem is that your database is done, but we can eliminate that possibility since you are able to login to phpMyAdmin.
