  • Looking at the plugin (I don’t use it) it probably has a setting to show the buttons before the content, after the content, or both. It’s probably set to both.

Thanks, MarkRH, that wasn’t it, tho, as I found the problem in settings.
There are two tabs, Standard and Floating
Unwittingly I turned on the ditto by selecting the same thing in the Floating tab (don’t even know that that means). When I I unchecked something in the Floating window and the problem was gone.

Thanks for your thought – it makes sense!

“Floating” buttons are these buttons — they stay in a fixed position while a user scrolls.

On your site right now you have some misplaced AddToAny HTML code in the Additional Options box in AddToAny plugin settings. That box is for special JavaScript code, so you should remove what you have in there because it’s causing a JavaScript error.

Duplicate share buttons are occurring because of some “Frontier”-created widget that your site has enabled. Check Appearance > Widgets, or get support from Frontier on how to remove that widget.

I checked my Frontier theme “customize” and saw something about AddToAny and thought I had removed it, as now I can’t find it. Whatever, the doubling of ATA display remained. It’s apparently now on all posts/pages doubled, but I can remove the extra by editing one page at a time – that’s unacceptable.

On both tabs Standard and Floating is an item for “Additional Items”, both containing beginning “<!– AddToAny BEGIN –> — I didn’t write any of that (have no idea how!) and suspect that’s triggering the doubling. I gotta say that gibberish like that ought not be inserted by ATA because I suspect many lay users unsavvy with CSS and Java like myself have no clue what it’s instructing NOR what to do with that.

“Additional Options” should not appear in the Floating tab — that’s a red flag that you have a larger issue affecting AddToAny and your other site components. As the plugin FAQ states under “Something is wrong,” try temporarily deactivating other plugins to pinpoint the root issue.

You’re assuming far too much. AddToAny does not insert that code. It’s evident that someone inserted the erroneous code you currently have in your Additional Options box, and it might’ve been done over a year ago judging by the older general code that was inserted.

I have since gone thru a small version of hell. I’m running Linux as my main computer, but also have and sometimes use a now-Win10 laptop. I don’t need AV on Linux but use Frontier Secure on the laptop, where Win10 is a recent update from Win8.1. There I found that the Win10update had disabled or wiped out Frontier Secure AV, and so spent over 2 hours getting it reinstalled and running a full scan. About 21 malware items were found, quarantined and removed, so that was a good thing.

Back on the Linux box, my theme Frontier (not to be confused with Frontier Secure) showed nothing about AddToAny. So then I went to your Settings and simply deleted the “whatever” within that /Floating/Additional Options box. After some checking of articles, I see no more duplicate AddToAny items below my posts. I have no idea how that Additional Options box was filled, but being now empty was apparently all that was needed. I do wish that you’d suggested that from the git-go. I do like AddToAny so I this makes me happy again.

So my issue can now be marked “resolved” but somehow it seems to have already been so marked. I thank you.
