I had to reinstall my site because of hacker/spam nonsense (turned out the Sweet Captcha plugin was to blame, but alas too late to turn back now). I imported all my own photos with FTP, but unfortunately the import didn’t include the data on Featured Images.

So I’ve tried several automated featured image type plugins, but none of them have worked. I’ve also tried running Regenerate Thumbnails, to see if that would reboot the automated Featured Images. Nope.

My thinking with many of these automated featured image plugins is that they go into effect when you save the post, not when you install the plugin, which would explain why they aren’t working for my media.

Surely others have had this problem before me. There must be a solution, short of manually going through hundreds of old posts and choosing Featured Images. What should I try?

I should also mention I’m having some other issues with the images my /uploads folder, that are probably unrelated.

Hmm, turned out the problem wasn’t the Featured Image plugin, but that Media from FTP, which had been working before, stopped working. So the plugin to create the featured images worked but didn’t know the image was there to pull.

btw though, the plugin you recommend seems to pull the same image over and over, so not really the best solution. Thanks anyway.

But since the Autoset Featured Image solved my problem, I’m marking this as resolved and opening a new ticket to try to figure out how the heck I can get WP to recognize the media from my old blog posts.

Here’s the new ticket. Thanks for your replies thus far.
