Getting attribute descriptions to display when Variation is selected

Our store sells flavoured products and some of the products my employers have made have very odd and non-descriptive flavors so I’d like to make choosing one easier on our customers.
What I’d like is to have a description appear when a flavor has been chosen, similar to how a variation image will appear if one is assigned. Either by adding it through the variation in the product itself, or displaying it through the attributes (which would be much easier on me since a lot of the different products share the same flavor attributes.)
I’d prefer if only one flavor description was visible at a time, the active variation. Currently I tacked the descriptions into the names because it was the only way I could display them at all.
is this possible and what might I need to do to accomplish it?
