    Hi there,

We recently installed the Matomo plugin on a test WordPress install and it worked. When we installed and activated the plugin on our staging server, we got 502 gateway timeout issue when visited the settings page.

Upon debugging we found that the plugin in trying to run a query “select * from users” which includes all user IDs.

The site has over 100k users and so the query takes a long time to execute and thus results in 502 gateway timeout error.

Is this plugin suppose to work with large site with 100k users?

Hi @hireawiz, for a website of that scale it might be better to use a self-hosted or cloud Matomo instance (see https://matomo.org/what-is-on-premise/ for more info).

This plugin is the Matomo analytics platform, which is traditionally it’s own product, embedded in WordPress. For smaller websites, this plugin can be convenient way to get the power of Matomo and the many Matomo plugins quickly without having to manage another web application and/or server. But, doing so adds the work an analytics platform has to do to your WordPress website, so it’s not ideal for larger websites.

Note: we also recommend using a self-hosted instance if you are expecting over 50,000 page views per month.

    Does this answer your question?

Since there hasn’t been a reply I’ll mark this as resolved. However, if you have any further questions feel free to comment here or create another issue.
