Getting a lot of SPAM

  • Hey there,

    Getting a lot of spam. Activated Honeypot and Challenge – spam keeps coming in.

    Considering moving to another plugin but I like the simplicity of this plugin.

    Any help with this?

    Hi,

    How much spam are you getting daily?

    At the bottom of the emails there’s an “additional information” section, what does it say for “Agent” (browser info on those emails.

    IP is also in the “additional information” section, does it repeat or is it different IP every time?

    Hey,

    Lots. Then I activated Honeypot after I read another topic here about spam. It stopped for a couple of days. Now it seems to increase daily.

    Around 8 per day now.

    I didn’t have the additional info checked in settings – I have now.

    I can’t provide that info at this point yet.

    Oke I got some additional info data:

    IPs are different each time. IPs of the last 3 spam emails:

    178.159.37.85
    46.118.118.36
    5.188.210.22

    User agents seem a bit the same. User agents of the last 3 spam emails:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36 Kinza/4.7.2

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.170 Safari/537.36 OPR/53.0.2907.99

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.106 Safari/537.36 Kinza/4.9.1

    Do you have the challenge question enabled and if you do what is it?

    Also, is there similarities in the messages. We could add an option where you can place specific words, if the message contains any of the words it will stop the email from sending.

    Challenge is enabled (1 + 1).

    Most email are x-rated, medicine or casino related.

    How do they bypass the honeypot + the challenge?

    Can’t say for sure how they bypass it.

    I’m guessing the word blacklist would work out, correct?

    We’ll release an update this week with that feature.

    I made the challenge question more difficult. Less user-friendly but it stopped the spam – for now.
