• When I click a link on the calendar, month archive or view previous posts I get “Error 404 – Not Found”. I’m new to this so bare with me.

Here’s what I’m able to do:
    View/Sort posts by category
    Search posts
    Add comments

If I’m viewing normally, and click on “Previous Entries”, I get the 404, but if I click on a category, I can click on “Previous/Next Entries” without a problem.

    This is my permalink structure
    /%category%/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

I’ve tried about a dozen diffent structures and this is the only one that gets me close to proper functionality.

My personal blog at https://www.jeboothjr.com/jeblog has the most entries to play around with (Previous/Next).

  • I am having the same problem. I go to my weblog (started on the weekend and is supposed to have 18 logs) and I click either archives, previous logs and categories only to get a 404 error “The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. … HTTP 404 – File not found Internet Explorer” If you should get an answer – please email

[email protected] with it. My files are showing #7 – #25 for this month. I have no idea what happened to 1 – 6.

Try removing /%category%/ from your permalink structure.

I’ve tried removing “/%category%/ and I get 404’s for everything link related, then. I’ve read through tons of posts about the permalink issue and none of them have work for me.

Does your host support mod_rewrite? Can you confirm that WordPress-related rewrite rules are being added to your .htaccess file?

I don’t really understand the whole process fully, but a .htaccess file is created and WordPress stuff is in it.

Does your host have mod_rewrite enabled? If it isn’t apparent in whatever knowledge base they provide, you’ll prbably have to ask them.

I called and asked and they said that mod_rewrite should work.

    Try this structure: /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

I went into admin, pasted exactly what you typed into the Options/Permalinks Structure field and clicked “Update Permalink Structure”. Is there anything else I need to do, because everything gives me a 404. I also have /categories in the Category Base, but I also tried it without it.

Sorry, I’m out of ideas. Anybody else?

I appreciate the help. I’ll look at other blogging options, in case I can’t get this to work.
