Getting 404 from side bar categories

Possibly bad permalinks?

They had been working before and I tried a different theme for a while in pursuit of the process of learning more about WP. Could I have toggled something unknowingly? How is it, if so, that I broke the permalink? Also, how can I determine if they are broken?

install seo ultimate plugin and this will allow you see all 404 errors as they happen. if you have corrupt links distributed out on the web it will hurt your serps. You may also install redirection plugin which then you can copy the broken link you find in seo ulitmate and 301 redirect that to the good page.

Both plugins work well together and beats trying to figure out where the theme screwed up.

Okay I’ll give that a try. Clearly I don’t understand the theory behind your assessment although I do get the efficiency of the remedy. I find my ignorance highly frustrating.

Besides being spoon fed clues on forums,(for which I am very grateful to those willing to respond), is there any other resources that by further study will allow me to be more self-sufficient?
