• Hi,

I just installed WP from my host and then immediately upgraded to version 2.6.2 manually (via ftp). Then I added themes and widgets, updated my setting, etc., and then proceeded to add some content to test everything.

Now, when I click on anything in the blog I get a 404 error page saying that the page doesn’t exist.

As a security measure I changed the table prefixes in my database, so they are not wp_, but I edited my config file accordingly, so I am not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Everything seems fine in the admin section, but the blog page is simply not updating the information, nor creating pages, etc.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Yol

Thanks. I did, and updated .httaccess file too, as instructed in the admin panel, but no luck. Should I switch to ‘default’? or move .httaccess outside the admin folder?

    Thanks again,

    Yol

    1. Who said you should have htaccess (BTW, you spelled it wrong, hopefully not on the server!) in the wp-admin?

Yes, switch to the default if you are not able to make it work.

    Wow, you’re quick…

I installed the wp-security-scan plugin and that’s what it said I was missing, so I added that layer of security. I realized I spelled it wrong here, not on the server. ??

I switched to ‘default’ and apparently that is the only way it works. I’ll remove the .htaccess file and see if that’s what’s causing the trouble. Not too crazy about the ‘default’ style.

    Thanks so much!

    That’s a different .htaccess file.
Read the documentation I linked to.

Ohhhhh… It’s working now and I was able to customize the permalinks.

Thanks so much for your help. It was greatly appreciated.
