Get image dimensions, then fade in

Has anyone been able to achieve this?
At the moment I have a pretty clunky experience when loading new posts:

Would love to fade in images smoothly, only once they have fully loaded.
Is there maybe a callback solution that could work alongside BJ lazyload or imagesLoaded?
