    Hello!
I have used your plugin “EU VAT assistant” for a while already and I am very satisfied. To help people in times of Corona, the German government made a change to its VAT. As of July 1st, German VAT will be 16% instead of 19% for the rest of the year. Will your plugin automatically take this into consideration or is there something I have to do? If so, how should I proceed to make this change.

    Many thanks!

    Juliane

The EU VAT Assistant doesn’t set or updates VAT rates automatically. We left that feature out of our plugin deliberately, as tax compliance is a responsibility of the merchant and didn’t want to introduce any mechanism that could suddenly change the settings without the merchant’s approval (especially not in the middle of the night, when the merchant is not there to keep an eye on the site).

In your specific case, you will just have to amend the VAT rate for Germany by going WooCommerce > Settings > Tax, when the new rate will apply, and restore it to the original one when the time will come.

How we handle changes in VAT rates at Aelia
We are affected by the changes in VAT rates as well. As part of our internal process, we just set a simple reminder to do update the rates in our shop. It takes a couple of minutes, in most case it’s not even necessary to enable a maintenance mode.
